Marriage Monday

It's Marriage Monday over at Chrysalis, and today's topic is "Extreme Makeover: How God Renewed Our Marriage Against All the Odds." My lovebug and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage on April 6th. Has it always been easy? Of course not, but, God did not promise us a rose garden filled with no thorns. It has been through those thorn pricking moments, that our marriage has really learned to bloom. We have had some wonderful, mountaintop experiences, as well as some deep in the valley moments. The one thing that has never changed, has always been there, is our love for one another. Here are a couple of scriptures that helped us through the trying times: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up.But pity the man who falls, and has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Colossians 3:12-19
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive, as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Our marriage consist of three: God, me, and my lovebug. As long as this marriage remains a trio, with God leading the way, we will not only survive, but we will daily thrive under the Sonshine.

Great, Denise, I love the emphasis on marriage being a trio rather than a couple as so many of us wrongly think. You are SO SMART.

Hi Denise,
I like the idea of the rose garden, thorns, and blooming. That's a beautiful picture.

Excellent Scriptures! I especially love this from Colossians: Forgive, as the Lord forgave you. Pretty straight-forward and simple, isn't it?

Congratulations on your 25 years together, Denise. That's fantastic.

Thanks for joining us for Marriage Monday today. Let the Son shine!

You really, really have stepped it up a notch, Denise; your posts are SO inspirational! After this weekend (Lord willing and it doesn't rain out Fall Festival and move it to a later date), I'll have some time to be able to come back here daily. But know that every time I make it here, I am SO blessed...
