In Other Words Tuesday

Love needs to be based on character, if you know and love God, you see He has a lot of character we are in love with. The best thing we can do for our spouse is to grow in character, as listed in 1 Cor 13. It’s a love of choice. We choose to love God, He chooses to love us. Love of choice is the most powerful love, God calls that agape love, it’s a love that lasts, we should never settle for anything else between us and God, and others. It’s a love that grows. Keep fervent in your love, allow it to stretch and strain as you watch it grow. Wayne Corderio: Love is a choice that we are freely given. These days marriages remind me of a certain type of razor, disposable. A marriage is not something you try on for a little while, and then take it off, or exchange it for another. Those vows you took said for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or health, till death do you part. But, so many people seem to think that marriage is a game, they play for awhile, but then they move on. You are to love your spouse always, good times or bad. Love tends to grow stronger through the storms, as well as the sunny days. Jesus loved us so very much, that He willingly died for our sins, He chose to love us. Choose to love Jesus, not just sometimes, but all the time.

That was beautiful and so true. I have several friends whose husbands just up and left -- ended the marriage with no warning. Sometimes it is totally out of our hands -- and for those I feel so much of their pain.

I am thankful that God teaches us how to love. It is a choice, you are so right Sister.

Love,
Beth

Denise,

"some treat love like a disposable razor"...this is so sad and so true! This is what we are diligently trying to show our son that dating teaches your heart..to be in and out of relationships and discarding them once they no longer suit you. We are praying for him a godly young woman and one day stand on the belief that God will bring her to him. A godly wife to love him in an agape way and he her. No disposals allowed.

Beautiful post, my friend.

Hugs to you!

How wonderful, Denise! We're doing the "Fireproof" study at my church, and it is challenging and sometimes painful to see my shortcomings as a wife. Not to mention my shortcomings as a Christian. Thank you, God, for mercy...
The "disposable razor" comment is one that will be tucked away in my memory bank...
Blessings...

This is so beautiful, powerful and true. Thank you. Also, you can most certainly post an advice letter to yourself on your blog. I did not come up with the idea on my own...I saw several other bloggers do it...I did credit them in an earlier post, so if you want to read more letters like mine, they are linked on my site. Thank you for your sweet encouragement. Tomorrow my letter is all about marriage

Its sad to think we are just playing games. Playing games with our marriages, God, and ourselves when we don't have to. We try things for awhile and when it doesn't go our way we toss it out. God doesn't operate that way and neither should we.

Amen. Love the Lion picture. We just watched Fireproof for the first time...it echoes your words here! We are to love as God loves...it is about how we feel!

Yes..that's so true!!

And the only way we can truly love is through the Holy Spirit.

Yes so true. I loved your illustration of disposible razors. That is so right. Thanks for reminding us of how to choose.

Marriage is for a LIFETIME! People in today's time often throw in the towel much too quickly. You need to take your marriage vows before God VERY SERIOUSLY! I agree with you wholeheartedly!

I've never heard it put quite that way:
Disposable Razor.
But you are absolutely right!
Sad, isn't it?
A firm, sacred, and surrendered grasp of the love the New Testament teaches could eliminate so much of the disposing.
Wonderful words of encouragement.
Thank you and Happy IOW Tuesday!
