Marriage Monday-Money

Welcome to another Marriage Monday. Today, we are talking about money , and the effect of it on your marriage. Eddie and I recently celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. When we first got married back in April of 1985, we made the decision, that I would be a stay at home wife. That really turned out to be a wise decision, due to my health problems. We are not wealthy, never have been, and never will be. We do not have the most up to date electronic gadgets, we do not have a house, we have lived in apartments our entire marriage. We do not wear name designer clothes, or shoes. We have never been able to travel on vacations. We always had used cars, until in 2000, we were blessed to get our first brand new car. It was a beautiful 2000 blue mustang, we call her, mustang sally. We are so proud of that car, that still remains our only vehicle. We do not eat out at the best restaurants, when we do eat out, it is at fast food drive thrus. My fingers, and neck, are not filled with diamond jewelry. Of course, I do not need to visit a hair salon, lol I care nothing about visiting a tanning salon. I have never had my nails, or toenails done. But, you know what? We are as happy, as two love bugs, snuggled up in a comfortable rug, laughing, and loving, the days and nights, away. All we need, is each other, and our precious Lord. There have been some tough times financially, due to Eddies health crisis, back in 2010, and then my stroke last year. The medical bills piled up, but God intervened on our behalf, praise Him, and we survived. Thanks to the prayers, love, and help of our precious friends, we made it through. We are forever thankful. Marriage is not about the money you have, it is about the love you share with one another, and the memories you make.

What a blessing it is to be content!

Your lifestyle sound very similar to ours and I too am mostly content (although I do indulge in hair and nails once in a while). I've never had any interest in a closet full of shoes or the latest iPhone type gadgets. Thanks for sharing!

You have wisdom, and that, my friend, is worth more than any fancy house or vacation. I grew up in an area that was kind of a one factory town and when restructuring hit, 20% of the workforce as gone. It was awful, and those who were let go were not bad workers. But I heard horror stories of them refusing to leave because they just bought their dream home, boat, etc...and couldn't fathom being unemployed and strapped to those debts. Heartbreaking.

We have a couple of decades of marriage and feel blessed and happy. Having things is nice but having each other is all we really need.

You two have truly found the important things in life and not wasted a moment on the fluff! That's such a great model for the rest of us. Thanks for your encouraging words. Love truly does trump money every time! :)

A great testimony that marriage works when Jesus is the main person between two lovebird.

Amen and Praise Jesus! Your post was super encouraging to me. 11 years into choosing to be a stay at home mom and I was having a heartache about not being able to send my kids to summer camp, like everyone else can. I know we are a very happy little family in spite of stuff like this, but I sure appreciated your reminder.

Marriage is not about the money you share. Right on, Denise!

There is a lot of wisdom in this post. It doesn't matter what stuff you have--it's the people you have. Thanks for posting.

i really enjoyed reading this! You sound like you are very happy with your lifestyle choices. We weren't going to buy a house either BUT after 3 years of renting in a very high rent area we decided to build because over time we were saving money as it would be something we actually OWNED! everyone is different and it sounds like you and your hubby have a good balance for each other. I've never had a professional manicure done either! lol...and i don't mind at all!

Your post is a great encouragement to me. I never go to beauty salon for nail manicures and buy updated gadgets, too. You're right, as long as we have each other and Jesus in our life, we should be content!

I can relate. We have old cars and an old house. Our newest car is a 1998 vehicle we inherited from my mother-in-law. Thanks for stopping by my blog. It was nice to "meet" you.
Blessings!
