Marriage Monday-Romance

I am not getting my definition of romance from the dictionary, instead, I am getting my definition from my heart. To me, romance is doing things to make your husband, or wife feel loved.  Not just telling them you love them, but showing them you love them. Love is a verb, and it truly needs action behind it. How has my husband shown romance to me? Wow, in so many various ways. When my mother was living with us, and she was dying, he was so good to her. He treated her like she was his mother, they were such awesome friends. I remember one night, she got really sick, and we had to take her to the emergency room. She was so sick, and very weak. Eddie lifted her up in his arms, and carried her out to the car. I will never forget the smile on her face, and the words she said to him"Eddie, no man has ever swept me off my feet before, thanks!! My husband put a giant smile upon my mothers face, and a giant smile in my heart. That to me, was very romantic. When my hair was falling out, and I had to shave it off, which made me feel very ugly, and unwomanly. My husband stood in the bathroom, shaved my head, dried my tears, told me over, and over, that I was beautiful in his eyes, then, he shaved his head. That to me, was very romantic. I have a constant battle with my weight, he loves me regardless. When I was at my biggest, 258, he always said I was beautiful. When I was dealing with aneroxia, and lost down to 99 pounds, he still said I was his beautiful wife, and now, he constantly tells me I am beautiful. That to me, is very romantic. When I had my stroke last year, he was there at every visiting hour, both in intensive care, and rehab. He was my biggest cheerleader. He would wheel me outside to the gazebo, where we would have little picnics. That to me, was very romantic. Believe me when I say, romance is very alive at the Oldham home. By the way, romance is not solely based upon sex. Although, sex is a very precious, important part of marriage.

You brought tears to my eyes when I read this! It reminded me of a story I read years ago written by a woman whose mother had Alzheimer's. It was specifically written about her father and his devotion to her mother. He wouldn't think of "putting her away" or making his life easier even though she no longer remembered him. He said(my paraphrase), "I remember and I will remember for the both of us!" Love is more than a feeling, it's a commitment! Thanks for sharing that with us today!

Wow he sounds wonderful, How very sweet he was to your mom. My Papaw took care of my little Mamaw (his MIL) for years I know how much that meant to her and my Mamaw. I am glad he has been so faithful in your trials. You are blessed even in difficult times.

What a beautiful picture you've painted! It does indeed take a special man when illness is involved. I'm thankful to be married to one of them!

I too believe that love is a verb. Eddie is showing real love in action. God bless you both.

Hi Denise, I hope you have a wonderful day. Your words are an inspiration to me. They make me realize my husband thinks love is a verb, too. He helps me so much. I hope you feel as good as you have made me feel this morning. :-D
Lots of love, from me and Wilma

What a great post. So sweet. This post is a great reminder to look for the romance in our man. Husbands love differently and we should not confine them to the "cookie cutter" definition of romance. Thank you for sharing.
