Marriage Monday-Ways To Avoid Boredom And Apathy

Hey everyone, welcome to another Marriage Monday. Today, we are sharing ways that we avoid boredom, and apathy in our marriages. Lovebug and I have been married for almost  27 years, as of April 6th. One thing we have always had alot of is, love. And one thing we have never had very much of is, money. But, that has never stopped us from having fun, and romance in our marriage. We do not have feelings of boredom, or apathy, praise God. Let me share a few reasons why we are still happily married.  Things we do for fun, that do not cost anything- We play board games, cards, have movie nights, and even karoke nights, lol. We make our favorite snacks, and enjoy the night. Things we do for fun, that cost very little, but mean so much to us, and we truly enjoy them. We have a date night, once a month. We go eat at our favorite resturant, then we go to see a movie at the cheap movie theatre, which cost us $2.50 per person. We share a popcorn, and a drink.  Also, we love to go get a combo meal from a resturant, and go to the duckpond, and eat, and talk. I love that so much.  We also really enjoy going to the park, and walking.  In the summer, at the park for five weeks, every Saturday evening at dark, they show family movies for free. They sale snacks, and drinks there, or you can take your own. We also enjoy that. We take our blanket, spread it out, and enjoy the movie, and being outside.  The main ingredient in all of this, is love. How can you become bored, when you are spending time with the love of your life?  The main thing to remember, and focus on in your marriage, is each other.  No boredom here at the Oldhams, only fun, fun, fun.  Even when I was in the rehab hospital for 11 days, we kept the good times rolling.  Lovebug would come to visit me everyday, when he got off of work, and stay until visitor hours were over at  9P.M.   He would help me into my wheelchair, and wheel me outside. We would go to the gazebo, and sit and talk, and eat a delicious turkey sandwich. Then, he would wheel me over to a park that was next door to the hospital. He would help me out of my chair, and help me walk  through the park. It was so nice,  those were the best moments of my day.

Those are such true words. Larry & I have been together for 11 yrs. Never made over $15,000 a yr. Saturday is our day where we spend the day going to the thrift stores & seeing what we can find for the least amount of money. It's our day together & something we enjoy & we go to KFC & enjoy their $1.99 box meal. Nothing better than spending time with the person you love.

This is a fantastic post, Denise! All those thrifters out there would be proud of you. And I think you have them beat by a long shot. One thing I like to do when we can't get to a good book store (2 hours away), is have coffee and biscotti in by the fire and read magazines and look at books. Just like being at the bookstore, except I don't have to listen to annoyingly loud people at the next table. lol (And my books are already paid for! :-)

Oh I hear you! Money doesn't do it, we are so much more blessed and encouraged when we find affordable or free ways to just BE with one another.

Such a sweet post! I love my hubby and my phamily. a favorite memory for the entire 7 of us is going to the Denver Zoo on a free day for Colorado residents. We each carried a backpack. We filled them with bologna and cheese sandwiches, juice boxes, chips and fruit and cookies! We always had so much fun! We always did free things when our kids were small. They were never slighted because we could not afford Disneyland or some other "have to" vacation destination! But we had fun. My hubby and I still roam the thrift store most Saturdays. We have a good solid marriage. I am happy! I see you and Eddie are too! Hugs Anne

Awwwww.... you two are so special! What good friends you are!

I've noticed something, Shortybear. Couples that are driven my money and spend all their time at work are often short on relationship. The reverse also seems true. Couples that major on their relationship (and friendships in general) tend to be short on funds.

We don't have lots of money to spend on dates either, but we do make time to be together on a regular basis. And that's what matters to us.

Thanks for joining us for Marriage Monday today.

Hugs, e-Mom @ Chrysalis

Oh I am so full of joy to hear -or read- about your wonderful marriage living. I really want to have such a beautiful relationship just like you. Both praising the Lord, supporting each other and share every thought and feeling. What a wonderful life.

God bless you , sister.

Just goes to prove that money can't buy happiness! I think the key is just being together. Whether it's taking a vacation or just riding down to the REI store in Dallas, we spend time talking and planning. With his recent cancer surgery, I have to say that I do not take for granted anything we have together! I am aware that every day is a gift!

Oh so sweet...I can honestly say that we've been on the lower side of the income bracket too. With me being a SAHM for the last 19 years, there's never been alot of spare cash, in fact its was in the leanest times that we've been happiest. The Beatles had it down when they sang "Money Can't Buy Me Love'. You and your Lovebug have the right formula..congrats!

You have the truth here, it is not about money. It is about time. You two make time and enjoy life together. Continued blessings to both of you.

Ohhh Denise... Who could ever be bored with YOU???

These were great ideas!!!

Praise God for every one of the 27 years!!! and the fun along the way!

This was really great encouragement and really special, memorable ways.

Even in your last trial in the hospital, Lovebug's loving ways show such a good side of this dear man... may God continue to bless you both with many more great times, happier moments and many more of them!!!

Love,
Peggy
