Needed: Harvest Workers

Matthew 9:37     Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. -Amen. It was true then, and it is very true now. Look around you my friends, what do you see? I see a hurting world. People are turning to alcohol, drugs, sex, food, anything to feed the deep empty hole inside of them.  Loneliness is killing people, seriously. Depression is one of the leading causes of suicide. Did you know, that you can be in a room filled with hundreds of people, and still feel all alone? Why do people isolate each other? I hate cliques. I remember them from when I was in school. But, what is so sad, there are still cliques, adult cliques. I have been hurt by cliques in church. When you join a new church, you have to sometimes guard your heart. If there are alot of members that are related there, or that have been friends for years, watch out. It is hard to work your way in. This is crazy people. God loves us all, and wants us to love one another, not ignore, or isolate each other. When you see someone hurting, what do you do? If you know someone that has an abuse problem, what have you done to try to help them? Do you know anyone, that has not been to church in quite awhile? If so, have you called them, or went to visit them, to find out what was wrong? To let them know you love them, and miss them. Do not continue to let opportunities pass you by. Reach out to those that are hurting, just like Jesus reached out to you. Give of yourself to someone, do not keep your blessings all to yourself. We are to be selfless, not selfish. Remember, when Jesus was hanging on that cross, He was thinking of us, not His self. Do not dwell on what the world can do for you, instead, show the world, what you can do for it. Now, prepare to reap a plentiful harvest for Jesus.

wow praise God ! i think the holy spirit just put on your heart these words..i feel sad many times when i feel the rejection of people to others..why people just dont care about others ? also christians...its a blog but still people need a comfort word..as our pastor said me me and only me...thats not what jesus wants...all what you said in your post friend i can related...even we grow still it hurts to see all this...jesus speaks about the agape love where is it ? why not everyone do their part and God will do the rest..jesus loves people but as my husband told me the word love is many times far from our hearts maybe myself..i ask God to give me that love that he has...if we as christians dont worry who will ?
love your post...i wanted a long time to say these words...but was afraid of hurting anyone is not me...i love people and friendship..and still i do have few friends...glad God put a lady like you on my way even we dont now each other...thanks again for your friendship...

Dear Denise,

I really like this post of yours today!!!

Reflecting back many years ago I had a good friend ask me, "Lon, haven't you been reading your Bible lately, you don't seem as happy as usual."

He hit the nail right on the head!!! Because that was exactly the reason I wasn't feeling very happy seeing at that time I quit reading God's Word which is ALIVE in which I needed to feed my soul!!!

God bless,
Lon

That is so true, Denise!
I read somewhere today, "You can't help everyone, but you can help someone". Smile at everyone, that may be the only smile they get today!
Hugs to you and Coco!!

I so try to greet new folks coming to our church. I even ask the Pastor's wife to direct me toward someone who is visiting for the first time. Thankfully she will often come over to me and let me know where they are so I can greet them. I am so thankful for newcomers to our church and want them to feel as comfortable as I did when I first arrived. I am shy, but I know that God wants me to do this and with sometimes a little nervousness and a prayer, I obey! Great Post!

I know it's nothing biblical in this thought I have after reading your post but the quote: "Do not dwell on what the world can do for you, instead, show the world, what you can do for it.".....I just wish some of our politicians could read this and understand the entire concept.

Great post! I agree, church is the last place we should have to "work our way into" because of cliques!

That's what hurts the most....when Christians apply a wrong meaning of "being set apart" when they become born-again that they think they are better than those who have not been. They think they are following Jesus without seeing they are actually walking on a different path. Thank you for reminding us of what our true mission is...and that is to share His love and grace towards those who need them God bless and strengthen you sister.

Such a good reminder, Denise, to reach out to the lonely. There have been times in my life when I've been that lonely person, even when surrounded by a crowd of people. Sometimes, all we need is a gentle nudge of consideration. I always want to be a woman whose reach extends beyond her selfishness. God, open my eyes to reach today!
