Marriage Monday

What was your mother's best marriage advice to you? Wow, my dear momma gave me so much wonderful advice concerning my marriage, and I will be forever grateful for that. But, if I have to pick the greatest advice she ever gave me concerning marriage, it would be this: Love your husband the same way that God loves you. Unconditionally, and eternally. There should be no strings attached on your love for your husband, or time limits on your love. Sadly, marriage seems to have become something that so many easily dispose of, and move on to another one. Not me, I made vows before God, and I intend to keep them. For better, for worse, in sickness, and in health. Until death , do we part. Amen, amen.

That is some very good and sound advice. As for me...never go to bed angry. That's a tough one and I'm happy to report that the older I'm getting and the longer I've been married, the better I'm doing at it! :)

With that kind of advice, I just know that your mom is after the Lord's heart. My mom, when she was here, told me to always compromise and forgive. I miss her and I know you do, too. But thanks be to the Lord's wonderful promise, we'll be reunited with our precious moms someday.

Denise, how beautiful that your mom was able to give you good marriage advice!! Mine wasn't as she wasn't good at marriage; mostly I just sort of resolved to do everything different from her.

You're such a strong woman and it's easy to see that you got some of that from your mom.

I don't remember anything my mother told me when I married, but my FATHER told me just as we were leaving to the church for the ceremony..."In everything you do, be happy".

AND my dear, you say in my comments that your mom's favorite was the yellow rose...it was my DAD's!!!

I have to agree with you -- best advice a mom can give her daughter. You are right, Denise. Today many are willing to give up on their marriages because they think they can find something better.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Be blessed today and always...

That is true, we (society) tend to bale when things get rough! In our own family, our youngest daughter who has only been married 9 months is living in rebellion and has left our son-in-law. It's been very hard and as parents, when a child rejects the belief system they have grown up with, have been taught it DOES feel like a slap in the face. I keep clinging to Prov. 22: 6 and trust in God to work it all out. He sees the big picture and I can only see a small section of it.
