When I was a little girl some of my toys were:Care bears, Strawberry Shortcake, hula hoops, slinkys, and my favorite toy was the barbie beauty center. I remember when I first saw a commercial about the barbie beauty center, I fell in love with it. I wanted it so much, I asked my momma if she would please buy it for me. She promised that she would think about it. My dad was in prison at the time, and financially, things were really tough. My momma was working at a carpet mill trying to take care of me and my brother. I was in the 4th grade, and my brother was in the 10th grade. Momma worked so very hard to provide for us, and she did a wonderful job. In my heart, I knew that momma wanted to get that for me, but that she did not have the money to waste on a toy. I loved her, and I truly understood. Well, Christmas Eve, my momma told me that I could go ahead and open one gift. Of course, I picked the biggest box under the tree. I quickly tore the beautiful wrapping paper off, and immediately began to cry like a baby. My momma had bought me a barbie beauty center, my heart was so full. I ran over to her, and clung to her for a very long time. I kept telling her how much I loved her, and thanking her over and over. Momma also cried, and told me she loved me. There was no need for her to tell me she loved me, that was very evident. I know that my momma made many sacrifices for her children her entire life, and I will forever love, and appreciate her for that. My barbie beauty center, was a very precious gift to me, straight from my mommas heart.

Merry Christmas my dear friend!
What a precious memory.
That is so precious Denise. This is one time of year I will splurge on the kids and not feel guilty, sadly they hear the same from me, "I can't afford that" which I am glad I can't because they would be awfully spoiled.
Have a Merry Christmas.
What a joy of love she and you shared. Big hug. Merry Christmas. I love you my friend.

That will always be the best of Christmas gifts for you I know!! See how long you have remembered them? Your mother wanted it to be the best that she could make it..
Merry Christmas!!
Denise, I too had a single mother and could write a book of the sacrifices that were made on my behalf!!!!! How blessed we were to have such wonderful mothers whose love always overshadowed the things we didn't have. Amen
I'm thankful you stopped by or I wouldn't have had such a loving walk back down memory lane, again. Many blessings to you.
Such a story of a mother's love. How touching to read your words. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May this be a joyous time for you and your family.
Now I'm crying again!! What a beautiful, wonderful mother you have and what a beautiful, wonderful daughter she raised! Such a compassionate heart, to understand so much at that age. You are a dear sister in Christ to me!!! Have a blessed, blessed Christmas!

Oh, Denise! What a precious memory! It brought tears to my eyes to think how much our parents loved us and how much I love my children...oh, how much more our Heavenly Father loves us.
Be blessed today, my friend.
I love you!!!
Oh, Denise!!
This story of you and your momma brought back so many memories for me. My day passed away when I was 8 years old, and my mom was on her own with my brother and I.
So many times, I remember the words, particularly at Christmas, "I'll see what I can do--we really can't afford that"--and yet, somehow, through our moms' sacrifices they provided for us--hmmmm.....sounds very familiar doesn't it? God's sacrifice and providing for us??
I hope your new medicine is working wonders in you!!
I talked to Peggy last night--yes, really talked to her!! She asked about you--I told her about your test results, and you are in her prayers also!!
Beth
Beautiful tribute to your sweet mom,,, she sounds like quite the mother that everyone needs........ praying that you had a great Christmas....
Christmas is about giving! God have us His son! Christ gave himself willingly, and your mother gave out of her great love! Wonderful!
Beautiful! (I had the same toys!)
What a marvelous Christmas memory, Denise. How sweet that your momma got it for you, even thoughts things were tight for you. You are right - a mother's love does make sacrifices.
Thank you so much for sharing from your Christmas past :)
Be blessed today and always...
