Delighting In The Details

This week I have really been thinking about my Momma alot. My birthday is this coming Tuesday, how I wish that she could be here to celebrate with me. Every year on my birthday, she was the first one to call me, as soon as I answered the phone, she would start singing happy birthday. I can still hear that precious voice in my mind, and heart. I remember on my 19 birthday, I was feeling down, my boyfriend had just broke up with me(perfect timing huh???)anyway, the doorbell rang, and when I answered the door, there was a guy from a florist shop standing there holding a dozen beautiful red roses. He said, are you Denise? I said, yes, I sure am. He handed them to me, told me to enjoy them, and away he went. I of course, went running into the kitchen to show them to my Momma. She said, those are lovely honey, who are they from? I opened the card, and inside it said, from your greatest admirer, love you always. I was so excited, I said, Momma, who could they be from? Guys names started going through my mind, Momma was smiling the entire time. She said, whoever they are from, has wonderful taste for loving you. Well, a few years later on my wedding day, I "met" my greatest admirer. Momma pulled me to her side right before I was preparing to walk down the aisle, she said, I have a confession. I said, ok, go ahead. She said, remember the dozen roses from your greatest admirer? I laughed, and said, I never did figure out who those were from. She hugged me tightly, and whispered into my ear, they were from your greatest admirer, your Momma. I praise God for allowing me to celebrate 42 birthdays with my Momma. I thank God, and my precious Momma for giving me life. You will always be part of my birthday celebration Momma. Eddie buys one gift, wraps it, and puts a tag on it that says:To: Nesie From:Your Momma Angel I love you Momma, always, and forever.

My Mom does the same thing on my birthday. But she usually doesn't get to far before she stops singing and says, O.K- I'll spare you the rest.
Let me know when the package arrives safely. They told me it shipped yesterday. Hope it arrives on time.
What fun it is to be able to be with you on your Birthday!
Love ya girl!

Denise, may you celebrate your momma as she celebrated you this Tue. Whatever you're drinking, offer a toast to the amazing woman who had an amazing, incredible daughter.

I lost my mom almost 9 years ago, and I always buy myself something she would want me to have for my b'day. :)

hugs, gretchen
